Welcome to The Cross Scythes pub in Totley, Sheffield. Our picturesque pub is housed in a building which, according to Sheffield History, in part dates from the 17th century. The Cross Scythes was opened as a pub around 1818 by Samuel Hopkinson, a local farmer and scythe maker, to serve traffic on the new Baslow to Greenhill turnpike.Nowadays, the pub is a bustling, stylish watering hole and eatery in the heart of Totley, with close proximity to the beautiful Peak District National Park.We pride ourselves on attentive, caring service and freshly prepared, locally-sourced food that changes with the seasons. The pub is owned by front-of-house manager Ben Stazi and chef patron Scott Philliskirk, who became friends when they worked at the Cross Scythes in 2009 under previous owners. They have returned to the pub to combine their expertise and share their passion for making the Cross Scythes the best it can be. There is disabled access and toilets to the rear of the building and we offer free WiFi to customers. We welcome well-behaved dogs in our garden and ask that they are kept on a short lead. We have four en-suite double bedrooms available at the Cross Scythes, Totley.
Our guests can enjoy a range of freshly prepared breakfast options each morning and we can also provide packed lunches for walkers with prior notice.Enjoy more of our beautiful, freshly prepared food in the evening as you snuggle in by one of the fireplaces in colder months or head outside into our large garden when the sun shines. The Cross Scythes is the perfect base to explore the Peak District National Park and enjoy some peace and quiet outside Sheffield city centre. The Peak District is just a 10-minute drive and we also benefit from being on a local bus route that can take guests both out into the Peaks as well as into the heart of Sheffield, which is around 20 minutes away.We are able to store bikes for anyone with this requirement and we have a large free car park available with no need to reserve a space. We can also assist with adding extras to your room, such as a chilled bottle of Prosecco on arrival.
